Community Protection
The Chief Fire Officer, Roy Wilsher is the Director of Community Protection. The Community Protection Directorate has four areas;
Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS)
- Provides a 24 hour emergency response service for fires, road traffic collisions and other serious incidents. There are 30 fire stations strategically based across the county
- Delivers a range of prevention and protection activities aimed at reducing fires and other incidents including the enforcement of fire safety legislation.
Trading Standards
- Safeguards the interests of consumers and the county's business community by protecting consumers against poor quality goods and services. The service;
- Enforces fair trading and safety laws, including those relating to the sale of alcohol and tobacco to children and young persons under the age of 18
- Advises business on how to comply with relevant legislation, and investigates complaints from consumers and the business community
- Monitors advertisements, brochures and unsolicited mail
- Inspects goods at all stages of production, distribution and point of sale
County Community Safety Unit (CCSU)
- The County Community Safety Unit brings together professionals from the county council and the police and aims to reduce the damage caused to communities by crime, anti-social behaviour, alcohol misuse and drug abuse in Hertfordshire.
- The CCSU specialises in four key areas;
- Protecting vulnerable adults and children, in particular victims of domestic abuse.
- Providing safer communities by tackling problems such as anti-social behaviour and alcohol misuse
- The county drug strategy that helps families and communities by addressing drugs supply, drug-related crime and anti-social behaviour
- Managing offenders rehabilitating within our communities with support from Hertfordshire's Probation service.
Resilience
- Provides professional support and response arrangements across HCC departments so that the Authority meets its statutory duties as set out in the Civil Contingencies Act.
- Ensures that HCC can fully play its part in a multi-agency, major incident response as well as continuing to deliver critical services during times of disruption.
- Direct work with communities is done under the "Hertfordshire Resilience" banner - the County's Local Resilience Forum. The Resilience team provide the secreetariat function which also drives forward multi-agency, major incident response plans, co-ordinates and develops training and exercising arrangements and facilitates the strong partnerships which have stood the county well in responding to a number of high profile major incidents over the years.
