Routes into Teaching

routes into teaching"Use your head. Teach" is the Training and Development Agency’s advertising slogan, encouraging you to "Make a positive difference to your own and others' lives – teach."

Prospects are good in teaching now and pay has improved greatly. Now there are training salaries to pay you to train to become a teacher and you could earn over £40,000 as a Classroom Teacher and up to £100,000 as a Head Teacher, depending on where you teach and responsibilities undertaken.

Also as a classroom teacher, if you use and share your skills with other teachers within your own school or in other schools you could become an Excellent Teacher (ET) or Advanced Skills Teacher (AST) and earn even more than the average classroom practitioner!

Whether you are a school leaver, looking to change career or to retrain in a new profession after a career break, register your interest in the teaching profession to obtain more information. Contact the Training and Development Agency (TDA) for schools on their Teaching Information Line on 0845 6000 991, or visit the TDA website (link on the right).

The School Workforce Development Team runs Teaching Taster courses (for further details, see the events page) so that you can experience first-hand what it's like to be a teacher in Hertfordshire.
