What Can the Returners' Club do for Me?

returner teachersThe Returners' Club is a free service and hopefully will help you to update your skills and regain confidence to return.

There are practical and theoretical sessions covering a wealth of subjects and we can also help you with advice on returning to teaching and how to apply for jobs. If you would like to gain some experience back in the classroom, we can assist with arranging observation sessions at schools close to you.

The club has been split into Primary and Secondary Returners, in order to cater more specifically for each sector. There remains overlap in some subjects and disciplines, for example, introduction to ICT, information and advice on supply teaching and behaviour management.

As you will see, the programme includes national curriculum updates, practical workshops and observation visits to schools. Please feel free to "dip in and out" of the programme, selecting those sessions which are of most interest to you.

There are many ICT courses offered, including Interactive Whiteboards. If you wish to attend any of the ICT sessions, it is important that you contact us as soon as possible to book in - places are limited.

If you would like to attend, please download the programme below, complete it and return it to the School Workforce Development Team using the "contact us" link on the right hand side of this page for further information. For further information, call us on 01438 844871.

In addition to the sessions themselves, the club offers:

Placements in schools for observation
2 free courses a year from the Inset Calendar
Use of the centre library and resource centre
Advice on pay and conditions
Help with CVs, interviews and applications
Your own copies of many of the other education publications

NB: Don't forget - the Hertfordshire Development Centre has relocated to Stevenage from 1st September 2008, so Returners'Club meetings will be from the new location from the Autumn Term 2008 onwards. Directions attached.
