Choosing to teach in Herts could be the best decision that you make.

Hertfordshire Council has received EXCELLENT status in the Audit Commission Performance tables for the past 2 years running and was voted COUNCIL OF THE YEAR in 2003.

As a newly named Children Services Authority, Hertfordshire is recognised as one of the leading education authorities in the country. In April 2001, the Children, Schools and Families Service was launched. By joining Education with the children's element of Social Services, the new service gives integrated and first class support to Hertfordshire's children.

Hertfordshire has 14 Beacon schools - 8 Primary, 5 Secondary and 1 Special School with the majority of Secondary schools either applying for or awarded specialist school status.

There's a wide range of schools in the county - 80 Secondary, 426 Primary and 27 Special. Sizes vary from one form entry primary to very large secondary. Types include community schools, church schools, single sex schools, schools with and without sixth forms.

Whatever the setting, you'll find well-ordered supportive environments in which teaching and learning are the prime focus.

The success of Education in the county is built on the hard work and dedication of our teachers. If you want to be part of this success, we want you to work in a Hertfordshire school.

Well-Being

Hertfordshire schools have a long tradition of caring for the welfare of their staff. The county was one of the first to join the national Well-Being Programme. Well-Being recognises that every school, whatever the challenges, has the potential to be a creative and motivating place in which to teach, work and learn. The programme supports the whole staff in their school in creating a healthier workplace. It focuses on the development of healthy organisations not singled-out individuals. It is about improving the culture of the workplace and working practices, based on collective problem-solving.
Over one hundred schools in Hertfordshire are now part of the Well-Being programme.
