The Education Act 2002 requires all schools to adopt a formal procedure for dealing with complaints.
The current guidance and model procedures for schools in Hertfordshire were issued in September 2005, including an explanation of the legal framework surrounding complaints. This sets out advice on the three stages of complaint and includes detailed guidance on the conduct of governors' complaint panel hearings. In addition, there are model letters that can be adapted and personalised by the school.
