Chair's Handbook

A companion volume to the Clerk’s Handbook, it is designed to help any Chair of a governing body.

Intended as an easy reference guide, it gives advice and support on the role of the Chair, guidance on legal matters, meetings, committee structures and relationships with other key players.

It offers summaries of the Chair's key roles and easy pointers to further information.

It has sections on:
  • The role of the Chair
  • The partnership with the clerk
  • The partnership with the headteacher
  • Meetings
  • Delegating the workload - committee structures
  • The support structure of Hertfordshire LA.
Appendices, written in the same clear, concise style, cover terms of reference for committees, indicators of good governance, conditions of employment for headteachers, some suggestions for standing orders, procedural rules at meetings and voting.

The handbook is sent, free of charge, to subscribers to the Chairs' Service.

Non-subscribers can order a copy for £20.00. Please
either
send cheque with order, payable to Hertfordshire County Council, or
