Promoting Emotional Health and Well Being in Children & Young People

Counselling Guidelines May 07The Counselling in Schools Service aims to provide qualified counsellors and arts’ therapists to support the emotional well being and mental health of Children and Young people in Hertfordshire.


The Service currently works with Children and Young People aged 5 – 19 years. From 2009 the service will be able to respond to referrals for children as young as 5 years old.



The counselling services offers:
  • Timely Access to Emotional Health and Well Being Support
  • Flexibility of Service Provision
  • Involvement of Service Users / Referrers in Developing and Improving Services

  • Quality Assurance - The service ensures that all therapeutic staff are fully qualified to Counselling Diploma level and Arts Therapists to Masters Level; and that relevant enhanced CRB checks are undertaken and updated on a regular basis for all service staff
  • Outcomes for the Children and Young People accessing the Service are recorded and monitored.

  • Counselling*
  • Art Therapy
  • Drama Therapy
  • Group work

  • *counsellors have skills in therapeutic play to enhance their skills when working with the younger age group or children and young people with communication difficulties.
