Private tuition and tutors

Private tutors are not regulated by Hertfordshire County Council, and we do not hold a list of approved private tutors for the public.

Tutors can register their details with us, however anyone listing themselves for this purpose has not been Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked by the council before being added to the directory. Any details of CRB coverage should be obtained directly from the tutor. Click on the link below to view the list.

Newspapers and libraries may also hold advertisements by local private tutors, but these are not endorsed by the local authority.

There is a national programme of 1:1 tuition being piloted in some schools at the moment, called the Making Good Progress scheme, which aims to provide tuition to children who have been identified as needing extra suport. The tutors will be qualified and CRB checked. To find out if your child's school is taking part in this pilot scheme, please contact the school directly.
