Hertfordshire Music Service
Hertfordshire Music Service, a part of Hertfordshire County Council’s Children, Schools and Families Department, is the largest music service in the country. It is also one of the best having won the major award from the National Music Council on four separate occasions. It provides:
- for children: instrumental tuition, formal and informal activities ranging from youth orchestras, ensembles and choirs to rock bands.
- for schools: a comprehensive programme of instrumental tuition, curriculum support and music projects, including Wider Opportunities in Music for primary schools, Musical Futures for secondary schools and Music Therapy. 600 specialist instrumental and vocal teachers deliver instrumental tuition through schools and Music Centres.
- for families: family activities, lessons and events in all types of music for all ages, from the ‘family jams’ to playscheme workshops and classical firework concerts.
Hertfordshire Music Service also provides a comprehensive range of activities running throughout the school term and the holidays. It has pledged its support for the Music Manifesto and is ensuring that all young people in the county have opportunities to fulfill their potential in and through music and the arts.
