Full time education of your child at home (Elective Education)

Deciding to educate your child at home requires careful thought and consideration. If your child is currently attending a Hertfordshire school, you should also write to them stating that you are intending to educate your child at home. The school will then remove your child's name from the school roll.

Once the process has started, it's quite likely that an Education Welfare Officer will come and visit you to discuss the proposed educational provision for your child. After this, the child's education is assessed by an education curriculum adviser. Please contact us via the link on the left hand side of the page under 'Site tools' to discuss the involvement of an Education Welfare Officer and curriculum adviser.

Important note about educating your child outside school: the Hertfordshire LA will be unable to provide funding for resources or alternative provision, either now or in the future.

The Home Education Advisory Service can also provide information and resources.
