Travel Scholarships

Do you wish to visit a foreign country in order to undertake an approved course of study or other activity of an approved educational nature and expect to be resident abroad for at least one month?

If the answer is "Yes" and you are between 17 and 21 years of age with a home address in Hertfordshire you may be eligible for a Travel Scholarship from the Hertfordshire Educational Foundation.

Awards are made to individual students and not to groups and normally range from £100 to £500. Such factors as the length of stay and the location of the visit are taken into account when determining the size of any award. Favourable treatment will be given to those applications where the benefit to the community you are visisting is clearly demonstrated. After the visit, scholarship holders will be expected to submit a brief report (approximately 1000 words) to the Foundation Governors.

Applications are now invited for 2007/08 and should be submitted via the Head of your school or college, by a Youth Leader or other sponsor, who is requested to write a brief note on your suitability for an award. Applications will not be prejudiced because arrangements have not yet been completed, but awards will be subject to acceptance on a course or other activity. Applications are considered three times a year by the Governors of the Hertfordshire Educational Foundation, and the closing dates for applications are 15 October 2007, 25 February and 23 May 2008. Any application must be received at least 28 days before travelling.
