Special Needs and Special Schools
This section contains information about Special Schools and Special Needs and how these may impact the results which appear in the tables.
If a school has a large proportion of pupils with special educational needs, its assessment results may appear lower than the national standards.
Some pupils with special educational needs are academically able. But schools face challenges in achieving high results for many SEN pupils. The information on the numbers of SEN pupils in the year group and in each school lets you take this into account when looking at the school's results.
Special Schools
All pupils in special schools have special educational needs, but there is a very wide range of needs. Some schools provide education for children with moderate or severe learning difficulties, some for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties, and some for those with physical difficulties. These schools will be able to provide parents with detailed information about their children's achievements and progress.
