The necessity for a scheme to observe learning and teaching is made clear in the Common Inspection Framework (CIF) that applies to all post-16 learning providers. Observation offers the provider a monitoring and planning process that places a clear focus on the quality of learning. It should also offer the tutor clear guidance and an action plan to improve the quality of their work.
The LOBS scheme:
For providers who do not have a robust system for observation HAFLS have devised the LOBS Scheme. This is a comprehensive system for effective observation supported by a pack and free training sessions. The LOBS handbook and guidance on the grading of observations can be downloaded from this page.
