Skills for Life Tutors' Page

One of the challenges for PCDL within Hertfordshire is the development of systems for supporting learners with literacy, language or numeracy needs and development of discrete and embedded provision for Skills for Life. Tutors need to begin to familiarise themselves with ways in which they can identify and support learners with literacy, language and numeracy needs

The minimum entitlement for all PCDL learners is:

• Access to screening, initial assessment and diagnostic assessment as appropriate
• Access to confidential and sensitive advice as to how they can develop their literacy and numeracy skills
• The opportunity to develop an action plan to support the development of their skills
• Access to national qualifications

Hertfordshire Adult and Family Learning Service has developed some resources to help you as a tutor which have been sent to all providers. These include:

A Skills for Life Tool Kit
A framework of ILPs for recording progress and achievement and information concerning resources, including helpful websites

Hertfordshire Library Service has improved its book stock for Skills for Life readers and made them more accessible. They welcome visits from groups of learners and would encourage all Skills for Life groups to visit a library as part of their course.
