Starting School Booklet

Introduction

Starting school is a very important step for your child. The information in this booklet will act as a guide to help you through the application process.

This booklet explains the different types of schools in Hertfordshire and the co-ordinated admissions process that ensures all children are offered a school place at the same time. The directory section gives information about all first, infant and primary schools in Hertfordshire.

If you wish to apply for a place at a junior or middle school, please obtain our 'Joining Junior or Middle School' booklet in November 2007.

Last year 68% of parents/carers applied online for a primary school place. Visit www.hertsdirect.org/admissions for further details. Whilst we strongly recommend that you apply online, you may alternatively complete the paper application form, which can be found at the back of the paper booklet.

Hertfordshire has excellent schools that continue to raise standards. We all want the very best education for your child and to ensure that starting a new school is a well planned and happy experience.
