Applying outside the normal transfer times

Changing your child's school can affect him or her in many ways and the decision should not be taken without careful thought. We know that a number of families will need to transfer their child to another school during the academic year, rather than at the usual transfer times. This may be because they are moving into Hertfordshire or moving within the county. These school moves are called ‘In-year’ admissions.

In-year admissions for primary, infant, first, junior & middle schools

If you wish to apply for a school place at a primary, infant, first, junior or middle school you should contact the school direct.*

If you are turned down for a place at any school, you can ask the school to place your child's name on the 'continuing interest' list. If a place does become available in the relevant year group at the school, the child on the continuing interest list that best meets the published admission rules for the school will be offered the place. You also have a right to an independent appeal if you are turned down for a place at any school.

*Please note: If you wish to apply for a school place at a school in the Letchworth area (see the schools listed below), you should contact the Customer Service Centre on 01438 737500. In-Year admissions to these schools are being co-ordinated by The Authority, not by the schools themselves.

The following schools are affected by the Letchworth Primary Review:

Grange JMI School
Hillshott Infant and Nursery school
Icknield Infant and Nursery School
Lannock Primary School
Lordship Farm Primary School
Northfields Infant and Nursery school
Norton St Nicholas CofE School
Pixmore Junior School
