Joining junior or middle school is a very important step for your child. Whether your child is moving within the two-tier or three-tier education systems in Hertfordshire, the information in this booklet will act as a guide to help you through the application process.
If your child is currently in Year 2 of an infant school you will need to make an application to a junior school. Similarly if your child is in Year 4 at a first school you will need to make an application to a middle school.
If your child is in Year 2 at a primary school and you would like them to move, you can apply for them to transfer to a junior school or another primary school. If you wish to apply for Year 3 at a primary school you will need to contact the school direct.
This booklet explains the different types of schools in Hertfordshire and the co-ordinated admissions process that ensures all children are offered a school place at the same time. The directory section gives information about every junior and middle school in Hertfordshire.
Last year 59% of parents/carers applied online for a junior or middle school place. Please visit www.hertsdirect.org/admissions for further details. Whilst we strongly recommend that you apply online, you may alternatively complete the paper application form which can be found at the back of the paper booklet.
Hertfordshire has excellent schools that continue to raise standards. We all want the very best education for your child and to ensure that starting a new school is a well planned and happy experience. I wish your child every success as he or she continues their education at junior or middle school.
