Specialist status encourages schools to work on their strengths and to develop a clear ethos and distinctive character. By doing this schools will improve, become leaders in their area of expertise and drive innovation. It also means that parents and students have more choice when deciding what school to apply for. A parent may want their child to attend a school that specialises in a subject that their child enjoys and is good at. However, just because a school is a specialist school, doesn't mean the subjects that are not part of the specialism are neglected in anyway.
