How can my child get into my local specialist school?
Your child will not have to sit an exam in order to go to a specialist school. A specialist school may decide to select up to 10% of their students on the basis of their aptitude for the specialism, but only a handful actually do (approx. 6%).
Aptitude, however, is not the same as ability. Grammar schools select by ability - how well a pupil has done in a test. Selecting by aptitude means looking at a student's potential in a subject.
