Library charges and concessions

It is free to join a library and to borrow books. There are charges for some extra services and facilities. There are concessions on some charges.

Reservations

50p including notification by first class post.

There is no charge for reservations on stock that is intended for children, and no charge for requesting a small selection of books in languages other than English.  Reserves for specific language titles are subject to a reservation charge, if you are not entitled to concessions.  Please ask the staff for details.

An extra charge of £3 is made for items borrowed from outside Hertfordshire.

Talking books

1-4 cassettes: 75p a set for 3 weeks
(People over 65, or on a low income who receive benefits, 25p a set)

5-9 cassettes: £1.50 a set for 3 weeks
(People over 65, or on a low income who receive benefits, 50p a set)

10+ cassettes: £2.25 a set for 3 weeks
(People over 65, or on a low income who receive benefits, 75p a set)

Children’s talking books are free to borrow

Language courses
Linguaphone courses: £7.50 a set for 13 weeks
(no concessions)

Other language courses: 75p a set for 3 weeks
(People over 65, or on a low income who receive benefits, 25p a set)

Music recordings

Single CDs: weekly charge £1.00  
(People over 65, or on a low income who receive benefits, weekly charge 30p)

Multiple CD sets: weekly charge £2.00
(People over 65, or on a low income who receive benefits, weekly charge 60p)

No charge for people with disabilities or carers. Repeat charges are made for music recordings kept longer than a week.

DVDs

£3.00 per week
DVDs that have been in stock for longer than than three months are reservable.
Repeat charges are made for music recordings kept longer than a week.

Videos

All videos : £1.25 for a week

No concessions. Repeat charges are made for videos kept longer than a week. Videos that have been in stock for longer than three months are reservable.
