Libraries for the 21st Century

'Libraries for the 21st Century' is Hertfordshire's plan for investment and improvement in library services to meet the demands made on the service. The plans are set out in the vision document and implementation plan below.

During April and May 2006, Ipsos MORI carried out a wide ranging consultation on library services on behalf of the County Council. The consultation was conducted to seek the views of residents on the 'Libraries for the 21st Century'proposals, and in particular on suggestions to extend opening hours for libraries in order to increase usage. The results of this consultation are outlined in the report below.

The County Council Cabinet met on 24 July 2006 to consider the detailed proposals in the 'Libraries for the 21st Century' implementation plan, following the public consultation held during April and May 2006.

The new opening hours for libraries set out in Appendix 1 of the report were implemented from Monday 5 March 2007
