Bookstart

Bookstart logoBookstart is a national programme, that encourages a lifelong love of reading by providing packs of free books for babies, toddlers and nursery age children.

Sharing books with your child is a wonderful, fun way to build a loving relationship, increase their language skills and help them have a lifelong love of books. It will also give them a headstart when starting school.

The FREE Bookstart packs are available for babies aged 6-12 months, toddlers aged 18-35 months and for nursery children aged 3-4 years. Each pack contains two specially selected books, information and advice about sharing books with the specific age group, and an invitation for your child to join the library. These packs are also available in a number of community languages.

Special Bookstart packs are available for children aged 0-4 with special needs: Booktouch for children with a visual impairment and Bookshine for children with a hearing impairment.

Your Hertfordshire Bookstart Development Officer can be contacted via bookstart@hertscc.gov.uk
