The South Oxhey Community Library Project

Hertfordshire has been awarded funding from the Big Lottery Fund for a project to expand and remodel Oxhey Library. The new library will provide an upgraded venue for a range of learning opportunities and other community activities.

Update - February 2008
The Planning stage of the project is now well underway.
  • Artists Simon Grennan and Christopher Sperandio (collectively known as the Kartoon Kings) have been commissioned by the Green Heart Partnership to carry out a creative engagement project in South Oxhey during February and March. This work will culminate in the production of The Oxhey Library Book - a publication reflecting the community's ambitions for the development of the new library.
  • Hertfordshire Libraries are working with property partners Mace to refine plans for the new building, drawing on feedback gathered during December and January.
  • Two alternative possibilities are being investigated as locations for a temporary library building during the closure period.
  • We are working with local partners to firm up plans for the delivery of a range of community services through the extended library building.

Plans for the building work and for engagement with the local community must be submitted to the Big Lottery Fund by 14th April 2008. Once these are approved, it is anticipated that work on the new building will begin in the autumn, with the new library opening in the late summer of 2009.
