From Robb Wilton's "The day war broke out" and the cheekie-chappie rudery of Max Miller and Tommy Trinder to the craziness of Tommy Handley's popular radio show, ITMA, and the comedy songs of George Formby and Spike Jones - all did their bit to keep up morale during those dark days.
