There are 35 museums in Hertfordshire. They range in size from a branch of the Natural History Museum in Tring to a one room wonder in Datchworth. Together they care for an amazing collection of national and local treasures.
Hertfordshire County Council does not run any museums but supports the Museum Development Officer who works to improve the service provided by all museums in Hertfordshire. Funding for museums in Hertfordshire comes from a variety of sources. The District and Borough councils run most of the larger museums. There are also a great number of independent museums, many of which are run entirely by volunteers. All the museums are supported by the Hertfordshire Museums Partnership.
