Nomadic Hunters and Foragers

Following the final retreat of the Ice Sheets from Britain around 10,000 years BC, there was a general movement of people into Southern Britain across the land-bridge which still then existed between Britain and continental Europe.

The people who colonised Britain at this time were nomadic hunters and foragers who moved in small groups, lived in small tents and shelters and used stone tools for the hunting, gathering and processing of food. As these people did not live in permanent habitations, the physical remains of their activities are limited, and invariably consist of stone tools and little else.
