Awards for Artists
These individual schemes have now been absorbed into Arts Council England's 'Grants for the Arts' scheme.
'Grants for the Arts' aims to invest in the arts across England by making grants available under five aims:
To change people's lives through the opportunity to take part in or experience high-quality arts activities.
To increase opportunities for cultural diversity in the arts.
To support excellence, new ideas and activity to build long-term stability in arts organisations.
To invest in the creative talent of artists and individuals.
To increase resources for the arts.
Grants for individuals
As an individual you can apply for a grant for arts related activities which might include:
Projects and events.
Commissions and productions.
Research and development.
Capital items such as equipment.
Professional development and training including travel grants.
Bursaries.
Fellowships.
Residencies.
Touring.
You can apply for a grant to cover more than one type of activity. The grants to individuals normally range from £200 up to a total of £30,000 but larger grants for major projects and residencies can also be awarded. Most grants are under £30,000. You can apply for a grant to cover activities lasting up to three years.
Activities that will not be funded:
Ones that are not arts-related.
Ones that provide no potential benefit to the public.
Goods and services that have been bought or ordered before receiving a letter offering a grant.
Activities that have already taken place.
Students in full-time education, or their tuition fees.
Ongoing overheads, including those related to equipment or buildings such as insurance and maintenance costs.
