Kathleen was educated at the Wyggeston Girls' Grammar School, Leicester, where, at the age of 14, she won the Elizabeth Henderson scholarship to study music as a Junior Exhibitioner at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London. She furthered her studies at Birmingham University & Conservatoire of Music, returning to the Guildhall for postgraduate study in composition and orchestration. Currently her career is divided between her composing and her work as a music director.

Her sound design business embraces freelance work as a composer, arranger and orchestrator for recording studios, theatre, films, television and radio as well as advertising corporate work for businesses. Kathleen is a member of the British Music Council of Composers & Arrangers. As a music director Kathleen trains children for West End shows and operas. She is in the forefront of pioneering work with children's choirs is this country. She is internationally recognised as a treble choir specialist and her work takes her to Europe, USA and Canada as a guest conductor. She is Music Director of the Capital Arts Children’s Choir and founder of Opera Minor.
