Race Equality Scheme

The Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000 required local authorities to produce a Race Equality Scheme which demonstrates how they plan to meet their statutory obligations with regard to race equality. Hertfordshire's Scheme has now been in operation now for 3 years, and we have taken this opportunity to reflect on what has been achieved during that period, and to ensure that the Scheme is fulfilling its objectives. This re-draft will include broadening the scope of the Scheme to identify and address other areas of potential inequality to ensure that we are best placed to achieve our commitment.

It is envisaged that the final draft of this Scheme will be available by mid-Summer. However, we feel that it is important to report on our activities over the last 3 years and a summary of these is attached.
