Career Profile of Keir Fuller - Assistant O/T for Disabled Children's Team
Throughout my career, so far, I have worked with many different client groups; from people with mental health issues, to physically disabled people. However, having worked with disabled children and their families, I have found an area of interest that is not only very challenging, but also very rewarding.
During this time I have enjoyed learning about children with disabilities mainly because I work with a dedicated and highly skilled team of Occupational Therapists. I find the work fascinating because of the diversity of the clients we work.
My hours are 9 until 5:30 everyday, but these can be taken flexibly. I am also fortunate enough to have been seconded by Hertfordshire County Council to study Occupational Therapy on a part-time basis at Brunel University in West London. The scheme is very well managed and allows me to carry on being paid a full time wage whilst studying and working part time.
This has been an incredible experience for me because it has really focused my life and made me realise just how much I enjoy working in this field. Although I am only one year into the four year course, I have already learnt the fundamentals of the profession, which has had a positive effect on my everyday practice.
I believe that Hertfordshire County Council has an excellent team of Occupational Therapists, who are constantly developing and improving their practice, benefiting the children and their families.
I would certainly have no qualms in recommending this profession to anyone else who has a genuine interest in helping people and making a beneficial impact on their lives.
