Children's Residential Service - Children, Schools and Families
Here at Hertfordshire County Council, we are very proud of our award winning Children’s Residential Service. The way we look after children in Hertfordshire is about to be transformed with a new range of children’s homes and resource centres.
Thanks to Hertfordshire’s first private finance Initiative (PFI) project, Sponsored by the department of health, five brand new children’s homes will be built, along with two adolescent resource centres. Five family support centres will also be totally refurbished in the far-reaching scheme.
The contract for the £25 million capital project was signed in June and work on the first buildings will start soon.
“This is great news,” said Jane Pitman, lead members for children’s services. “The range of new resource and assessment centres means that we will be able to look at the needs of children more quickly and expand our preventative services to help vulnerable children’s and families.
“We asked the children we look after what they wanted and have included their ideas. This project marks the start of an exciting new phase for childcare in Hertfordshire.
These homes will be modern, utlising the latest technology and offering a homely environment for our children and young people to live in and call home.
The new homes will offer a well though out environment to work in and share, with the children and young people on a day to day basis.
