Learning and Development in
Children’s Residential
There are a number of ways in which we can support you in developing your career:
- There is a dedicated training officer for Residential child care who co-ordinates the training programme. This is produced annually and links into the training strategy. The training strategy sets out the expectations for each stage of your career, which courses are compulsory and how we can help you develop as an individual.
- There is a set of key competencies for each grade, which are used in supervision and training to help monitor your progress and identify areas requiring further training and development.
- There is a clear progression scheme that is supported by the training strategy and the competencies.
- Each member of staff has supervision with a more senior member of staff. This is an individual time to discuss your role, developmental needs, individual children and workload. It is not only seen as a monitoring process but also as a supportive one. It is a time where you can discuss any worries or concerns you may have. In your first 6 months in post this will be available to you on a fortnightly basis.
- If you do not already hold a relevant qualification, you will be expected to commence work on NVQ3 within the first 3 months of starting. This would be fully funded and supported by CSF.
