Why I love working in child care by Georgia Gilbert
It seems unbelievable when I look back to the start of my career in Children Looked After that I started on a casual basis and have now reached the position of assistant manager.
I feel I am doing something I believe in, (while acknowledging it is a challenging job,) but when I see a young person flourish with positive care and support it makes all of the hard work worthwhile.
I have received numerous training opportunities and support including accomplishing my NVQ3 and starting to train as an NVQ assessor. Unbelievable to me is the fact that I was selected for secondment to take my diploma in Social Work at the University of Hertfordshire. Without the support of the department I would never have been able to take this opportunity.
From being a low achiever at school I have worked my way up to university standard and achieved a managerial position which I know I would not have achieved without the support and guidance of the Children, Schools and Families department.
