Job description: the job description describes the demands of the role in terms of its main duties and responsibilities. It gives a picture of the job, explains why it exists and the authority attached to it.

Person specification: the person specification defines a job in human terms. It identifies the kind of person needed to fulfil the demands of the job by outlining the characteristics and attributes considered essential or desirable in the ideal candidate.
