Presenting petitions to council meetings

Any member of the public who is a resident or registered local government elector of Hertfordshire may present a petition at a full Council or Committee meeting relating to a matter with which the Council is concerned, containing 100 or more signatures of residents or business ratepayers of Hertfordshire.

Notification of intention to present a petition must be given in writing to the County Secretary at County Hall Hertford at least 14 clear calendar days before the meeting, where the subject matter is not an item on the agenda for the meeting, or 3 clear days where the item is on the agenda. There is an overall limit of 3 petitions per Council meeting, and 2 per Committee meeting. There is no provision for presenting petitions to any other meetings.

Special provision exists for representations to be made to the Development Control Committee, and this procedure is set out in full in Standing Order C11 (Annex 11), which is on page 76 of the Constitution.
