Stevenage Primary Review (Archived Document)

County Council’s Cabinet met on 21 March 2005 and reached agreement on the way forward for the primary schools in south Stevenage.

Following two extensive consultations, the Cabinet agreed that a two-form entry primary school on the Longmeadow site and a one-form entry primary school on the Burydale site should be set up from September. The two new schools will be established as a statutory governance federation, enabling them to pool resources and expertise. Each school will have its own separate foundation unit.

What will happen next?

Longmeadow Infant and Junior Schools will close on 31 August 2005 and a new 2 form of entry (f.e.) primary school will open on the current sites. Shephall Green Infant and Nursery School and Burydale Junior School will also close on 31 August 2005 and a new 1 f.e. primary school will open. The new school will continue to use both the Shephall Green and Burydale sites while building work is taking place at the Burydale site in order to minimise disruption to pupils and staff. We have an expectation that the building work will be completed for the start of the academic year 2006/7.

Statutory Notice

A statutory notice announcing the details of the proposed reorganisation was published on 23 March 2005. Copies are posted outside the schools and will remain there for a period of six weeks to allow for comments and objections.

The notice can also be viewed below in the Statutory Notice link.

Any comments and objections to this notice would be heard by the independent School Organisation Committee, which would make a final decision May 25 May 2005.
