Secondary Admissions (Archived Document)
Admission rules for Community Secondary Schools in Hertfordshire for the 2003-2004 school year
Parents and local communities are being consulted on the proposed rules for admission to Community Secondary Schools from September 2003.
These proposals are based on further development work and comments made during the informal consultation which took place in November and December. More than 950 people attended public meetings and written responses were received from more than 1200 people.
We want to be able to offer as many parents as possible the chance to send their children to one of their 3 ranked schools. The new rules will be in place for applications in Autumn 2002 for admissions to secondary schools in September 2003. The children who are currently in Year 5 will be the first to be affected by these rules and copies of the proposals have been sent to their parents.
Like the current admission rules the new proposals will give priority to:
- children with Statements of Special Educational Needs
- those with exceptional medical or social needs
- those with brothers or sisters already at the school
- those who live in the priority areas fort the children and would have further to travel to alternative schools
- those living closest to the school
In addition, two new rules are proposed to:
- give priority to the children of staff where the governors wish to do so to reduce recruitment and retention difficulties
- give priority to children with an aptitude in sport, arts, modern languages or technology in specialist schools
A series of public meetings will be held to explain the proposals and answer questions. All meetings will start at 7.30pm:
