Consultation on admissions for the school year 2005-2006 (Archived Document)

In accordance with legislation and the requirements of the revised Code of Practice on Admissions, the County Council is consulting on the admission arrangements for community and voluntary-controlled schools for the academic year 2005-2006.

There are 5 consultation documents, which can be downloaded

  1. Primary, Junior, Infant and Nursery School admission 2005-2006 (Appendix 1)
This document sets out the admission rules that the County Council proposes to use for community and voluntary-controlled primary, junior, infant and nursery schools. It is proposed to make the following amendments to the current admission rules and processes for 2005-2006:

Amend the wording in respect of Rule 4 where an anomaly has come to light which advantages parents whose children are in the first/middle school system in a way which was not originally intended.

The rules are applied only when a school is oversubscribed in order to determine which pupils should be given priority for places. When there are sufficient places, all those who apply will be offered a place.
  2. Secondary School Admission Rules 2005-2006 (Appendix 2)
This document sets out the admission rules that the County Council proposes to use for community and voluntary-controlled co-educational and community single-sex schools in Hertfordshire, including the priority areas to be used to administer applications. It is proposed to make the following amendments to the current admission rules and processes for 2005-2006:
    • To create separate Priority Areas for Hitchin and Letchworth. On existing patterns of application, this amendment should improve clarity for parents in respect of the schools at which they have the best chance of securing places.
    • To include Woolmer Green within the single sex priority area for Bishop’s Hatfield Girls School.

The admission rules for Tring School, which is a voluntary-controlled co-educational school are also shown.

These rules are applied only when a school is oversubscribed.
  3. 6th Form Admission Rules 2005-2006 (Appendix 3)
This document sets out the admission rules that are proposed for Sixth Forms in community and voluntary-controlled co-educational and community single-sex schools in Hertfordshire. The schedule sets out, on a school by school basis, the proposed published admission number (PAN), a summary of minimum entry requirements and, the criterion upon which any tiebreak will be determined.

These rules are applied only when a school is oversubscribed.
  4. Coordinated Schemes of Admission for Primary and Secondary Schools 2005-2006 (Appendix 4)
These documents are developed from the current co-ordinated schemes that operate in Hertfordshire. Regulations require co-ordinated admission schemes for both primary and secondary schools from the admission round for 2005. However, in order to fully comply with the regulations a number of modifications have been made to the existing schemes relating to the management of late and casual applications and to do with the transfer of information between admission authorities.
  5. Schedule of proposed Published Admission Numbers (PAN) for September 2005 (Appendix 5)
The proposed published admission number (PAN) for each community and voluntary-controlled school will reflect the net capacity calculation for the school unless there are particular circumstances where this is not possible. In such cases, and where the PAN is significantly less than the admission number indicated by the school’s net capacity, an explanation of the circumstances will be provided.
