Consultation on School Admissions for the School Year 2006/2007 (Archived Consultation)
In accordance with legislation and the requirements of the revised Code of Practice on Admissions, the County Council is consulting on the admission arrangements for community and voluntary-controlled schools for the academic year 2006-2007.
You may wish to download appendices 1-5 below. The changes we are proposing are as follows:
- To amend the arrangements for In-Year (Casual) admissions for Looked After Children
To amend the arrangements for In-Year admissions to further strengthen the position of Looked After Children for whom a school place is sought outside the normal round of admissions.
- To amend the arrangements for In-Year (Casual) admissions where primary schools are the subject of possible re-organisation proposals.
Where a review and re-organisation of primary school is planned, the LEA should remove devolved responsibilities for in-year admissions from primary schools and develop a framework for local arrangements.
There are two areas where, as a result of ongoing review and other developments, changes will occur every year. These areas will therefore require updating. The current arrangements are set out in the Schedules at appendices 3 and 4. These will be updated in the light of feedback from the consultation and incorporated into the arrangements which must be determined by the County Council before 15th April 2005.
- Schedule of proposed Published Admission Numbers (PAN) for September 2006 (Appendix 3)
To update Published Admission Numbers of schools in those cases where, for example, the Net Capacity calculation has increased the size of the school and the original PAN has become too low.
- Sixth Form Arrangements (Appendix 4)
To update arrangements for admission to 6th Form at Year 12. The proposed PAN, a summary of minimum entry requirements and the criteria upon which any tiebreak will be decided is set out in the Schedule.
- Co-ordinated Schemes of Admission for Primary and Secondary Schools 2006-2007 (Appendix 5)
Finally, for information, there will be a change to the Co-ordinated Schemes because national regulations require that middle school arrangements should form part of the Primary Scheme rather than be included in the Secondary Scheme. Specifically this will mean that rules applicable to primary schools will, from the 2006 admissions round, apply to middle schools.
