Next step in dealing with Hertfordshire’s waste

Six companies have been selected to progress to the next stage of the county council's search for an alternative solution to sending residual waste to landfill.

Thirteen companies showed interest in the council's residual waste procurement programme and the information they supplied was subject to evaluation by officers working with their advisors. The recommendations from this evaluation were at Cabinet on June 16 and it was agreed that the following companies would be invited to continue to the next stage in the procurement process:

• Covanta Energy Limited
• E.ON Energy from Waste AG (EEW)
• MVV Umwelt GmbH
• Shanks PFI Investments Ltd / Wheelabrator Technologies Inc consortium
• SITA UK Limited consortium
• Veolia ES Aurora

All of the short-listed companies have confirmed their continued interest in finding a solution for Hertfordshire's residual waste. These bidders will now be invited, starting in early July 2009, to develop an outline solution by the end of September 2009.
