Traffic count sites in Hertfordshire

Measuring traffic flow allows monitoring of the levels of traffic on the county's roads.

The count quoted on the map in the link below is an Annual Average Weekday Flow (AAWD) for the calendar year 2005. This represents an estimate of the average number of vehicles passing that point, in both directions, on a weekday between the hours of 0600 and 2200. This is the County Council's measure of the traffic flow on a particluar link.

Each AAWD represents a collation of a large amount of data. In depth analysis and breakdowns of data by time, date and direction are available for particular sites of interest. There may be a charge for such information, depending on the requester and the purpose of the request. Data on motorways and trunk roads, like the A5 and the A1, is collected by the Highways Agency and as such is not as easily available for in depth analysis.
