Environment and roads

Do I need Planning permission for my new or altered highway access (dropped kerb)?

If the access is on a classified road or to a shared dwelling (e.g. a block of flats) the answer is yes, you will need planning permission.

If the access is on an unclassified road you will not need planning permission. As a general rule all cul de sac's and minor housing roads will be unclassified and most other roads will be classified.

In all cases you would be well advised to check with the local area office of the Highways Department by selecting the 'Contact Us' link and ring the number listed for Hertfordshire Highways.
