Road safety education in schools

Road Safety - Walking Young children are one of the most vulnerable groups so road safety training starts early with parents at nursery and playgroup, where the accent is on practical pedestrian skills.

Primary and secondary school teachers are encouraged to include road safety in class work. Road Safety Officers are available to give advice and support to teachers to enable them to do this.

In Primary schools help is available for setting up walking buses, cycle training, pedestrian skills training, development of safer routes to school projects and for primary/secondary transition.

Our full list of what is on offer for schools is published on the Hertfordshire Grid for Learning website www.thegrid.org.uk.

In Secondary schools and colleges curriculum support is available for young driver education, cycle training and for the PHSE curriculum.
