Cycle training for children and adults

Please note that some courses may only be available in certain areas due to the availability of instructors.

Group courses held during the school holidays

Level 1 Skills Course

Consists of two 2 hour sessions either on consecutive days or morning and afternoon of the same day. The syllabus includes theory and practical riding skills on a playground area.

Available to children aged 8 years (year4) and over

Cost £15

Combined Level 1 and 2 Basic On-Road course

Consists of 5 sessions, first a 2 hour session including cycle check and assessment of level 1 skills on playground; then four 75 minute sessions at local road junctions.

Children should already be able to ride to level 1 standard.

There is homework to be done prior to the course.

Available to children aged 9 (year5) and older

Cost £40

Small group

Level 3 Advanced On-Road Course

To encourage cycling to school

Consists of 3 two hour sessions

Homework to be done prior to course - route map and personal aims

  • Theory - looking at routes to school and tackling problems, hazard perception, cycle check, skills assessment
  • Level 2 on-road assessment
  • Dealing with local traffic situations

Available to children transferring to secondary school or already in year 7/8

Cost £35

One to one training

Available to adults or children

Sessions from 1 to 2hrs

  • Training for absolute beginners to ride a cycle
  • Training to level 1
  • Training to level 2
  • Training to level 3 (content will depend upon the facilities in the area chosen for training).
  • Accompanied rides to deal with traffic situations on agreed routes eg between home and school

Family courses

  • how to ride together safely
