Occupational road risk - driving your business risk down

A CD has been developed by Road Safety professionals from the Local Authority Road Safety Officers' Association (LARSOA) to assist employers to develop and implement policies and best practice to help drive down their business risk.

Research conducted on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive found that between 25% to 33% of all serious and fatal traffic incidents involve someone who was at work at the time. This means that in Great Britain between 850 and 1,100 people are killed, and 90,000 to 118,000 are seriously injured in work-related road accidents each year.

The Health and Safety Executive considers on road accidents as 'at work' accidents. Employers must take all reasonable precautions to protect their employees whilst on the road in the course of their work.

The CD provides employers with a step by step guide in helping to develop policies to keep your vehicles and drivers safer, save you money and meet your duty of care.

The CD contains:
  • A simple guide and description of the issues
  • Web links to useful sites
  • A framework of policies you can complete and adopt
  • Powerpoint presentations for senior managers, line managers and employees
  • Documentation to adopt
  • Analysis tools to use
Copies of the CD are available for purchase from Hertfordshire County Council's Road Safety Unit for a cost of £50 + VAT each. For further details or to order a copy contact us.

LARSOA is a national road safety organisation that represents the Road Safety Officers (RSOs) of county councils, metropolitan borough councils and unitary authorities across the UK. It supports RSOs in fulfilling their statutory role – to reduce the number and severity of road accidents through education, training and publicity programmes. Further details can be found at their website.
