Driving Advantage - a course for older drivers
Are you over 60? Do you find driving stressful? The Road Safety Unit's special one-day course for older drivers – Driving Advantage – will help you cope with modern traffic and make it easier and safer to get around.
You may be one of the growing section of the population aged over 60 who rely more than ever on the car for independence, mobility and personal security. Perhaps you have been driving for years, but find it harder to cope with modern traffic conditions. Maybe you just want to brush up your driving technique.
The Driving Advantage course is a one-day workshop designed to provide strategies that will help you continue to drive safely as you get older.
The day includes:
- Mobility exercise session with a physiotherapist
- Concentration, coping with tiredness and fatigue
- Practical aids to driving
- Health, eyesight and medication with a doctor
- Reverse parking technique
- Eye sight and reaction timer tests
- Highway Code fun quiz.
You will take part in discussion groups to share concerns about every day problems such as:
- Road layouts & roundabouts
- Intimidation and traffic density
- Navigating in unfamiliar areas
- Common distractions
The local group of Advanced Motorists supports this course by offering a one-hour assessment drive in your car. This usually follows a week or two after you have attended the course.
Courses are held in various locations across Hertfordshire throughout the year. If you belong to a club or group and would like to arrange your own course for about 20 people, we would be happy to do this.
