Broken pavement, faulty streetlight? Contact the Hertfordshire Highways fault reporting line.

Hertfordshire Highways are reminding people to report any kind of fault on the county's highways by using the step by step online fault reporting service www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults.

You can also do it by calling 01438 737320 or 01923 471320 (from 01923 or 0208 codes).

We carry out extensive checks on the county’s roads, but it is not always possible to be aware of problems when they arise. That's why we need people to let us know when they come across something that is not right.

All reported faults are logged onto a dedicated computer system, which sends an automatic message to the area highway office, so they are aware of the problem. Faults are fixed in a priority order, but Hertfordshire Highways aim to repair hazardous potholes and pavements within 24 hours; reported streetlights within five working days; make safe an emergency such as exposed wiring within 2 hours and then carry out a proper repair within 24 hours.

When reporting faults, give as many details as you can, so that the fault can be located easily. In the case of streetlights, they all have a special identification number on them, so if you find one that needs reporting, noting the number will help engineers to locate the problem quickly.
