About Hertfordshire Highways
If you live, work or travel in Hertfordshire, then you cannot have failed to have come into contact with the work of Hertfordshire Highways.
It is our job to maintain Hertfordshire’s 3,000 miles of roads and pavements, 1,700 bridges, 100,000 street lights, 154,000 drains and 118,000 signs.
Our work is about more than just day to day repairs though!
- We have four emergency response teams on call 24/7, ready to attend to emergencies on the highway.
- We identify, design and build new schemes and traffic layouts to ease traffic flow and improve the general highway environment.
- We are responsible for investigating accident sites.
- We salt the roads during icy weather.
- We work to keep our roads safe and the traffic moving.
Please note that Hertfordshire Highways is responsible for all of Hertfordshire’s roads except motorways, which are looked after by the Highways Agency. Use the link on the right hand side of this page to visit their website.
