Hertfordshire Minerals and Waste Development Framework
Consultation on Waste Development Plan Documents January 2008
This consultation is now closed.
Waste is an increasingly important issue facing the county. The amount of waste produced by households, businesses and construction is rising. Whilst in the past much of this waste has been landfilled this is no longer the answer.
Our overall objective for waste planning is to protect human health and the environment by producing less waste and by using it as a resource wherever possible.
We aim to make waste management more economically and environmentally sustainable by reducing, reusing, recycling, composting, using waste as a source of energy, and only disposing of it a last resort. This means a significant change in the way waste is handled and large-scale investment from the waste industry in waste management facilities.
As the Local Planning Authority responsible for waste, we have a statutory responsibility to prepare a development plan setting out our vision, objectives and policies for the control of development relating to waste and for identifying sites
that may be suitable for future waste facilities.
This consultation seeks your views about three important waste planning documents. A summary document is also available below.
Each of these documents is at a different stage of preparation. It is vitally important that we consult the public, the waste industry and other key stakeholders for their views. Thank you in advance for taking the time to review and respond to this consultation.

The county council welcomes responses to all three documents from anyone in the county and anyone who has an interest in waste planning for Hertfordshire.
This is your chance to have your say on how we plan for the future treatment of YOUR waste. All responses will be taken into account. Those respondents seeking a change to the documents should be as specific as possible in setting
out their concern and how they would like the document to be altered.
Responses can be made using the response forms in a number of ways:
- online here
- via email to cdu@hertscc.gov.uk
- by post to CDU, County Hall, Pegs Lane, Hertford SG13 8DN
