Waste Core Strategy

The Core Strategy is the most important document in the Waste Development Framework as it contains the overarching vision, objectives and strategic policies for waste planning in Hertfordshire. As such it has been prepared in advance of the other waste development documents (Development Policies and Site Allocations), as these will need to complement the Core Strategy.

The Waste Core Strategy has been the subject of extensive consultation. The previous consultation stages – issues and options, preferred options and submission - can be viewed on the links at the bottom of the page.

The Core Strategy was submitted to the Secretary of State on the 28th January 2008. This was followed by a six week public consultation.

In accordance with section 20 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the First Secretary of State has appointed Inspector Elizabeth Hill BSc (Hons) BPhil MRTPI of the Planning Inspectorate to conduct the examination to determine whether the Core Strategy is sound. The government has identified nine tests of soundness, which can be viewed in Planning Policy Statement 12, which can be accessed via the Evidence base link. A self-assessment of soundness submitted by Hertfordshire County Council is also available on line in the Evidence base.

The Inspector will assess the soundness of the Core Strategy, having regard to the representations made. A summary of the representations and a statement of the key issues raises are available via the links at the bottom of the page.

The date of the Pre-Examination Meeting will soon be announced, please keep checking this website for further details.
